Safe and Sound Firearms and Home Defense Training came to life after two strangers who took the same firearms training courses, became good friends and after years of training, decided one day to become NRA Certified Range Safety Officers and later, USCCA Certified Instructors. Throughout our years of training in class or on the range, we found joy and fulfillment instructing students who have different levels of knowledge with firearms, firearm safety and defending themselves and/or their family. After obtaining our USCCA Instructor certification, we decided to extend our knowledge, experience and something we truly enjoy, to others.
So why train with Safe and Sound Firearms and Home Defense Training with the vast amount of choices in the Las Vegas area? Because we have been exactly where you might be today; nervous, unsure about handling a firearm, a desire to have some security, to protect your loved ones or you may be looking for a refresher course. Our objective is to provide you with the knowledge that will answer all of those questions or feelings and instruct you on firearm safety, how to safely handle a firearm, learn the anatomy of a firearm, help you prepare your home for a safer environment, teach you how to shoot a handgun and so much more.
Whether you are a beginner or have advanced knowledge with firearms and firearm safety. It is our goal to provide you with valuable information, excellent and professional service and above all, a great time.
I'm known as Kathleen, however, my friends call me Kat. I was born in Massachusetts and relocated to California when I was 3 years old. Spent several years in California before relocating to Las Vegas (twice). In 2009, I met my late husband and through him, found the love for our country and the freedoms given to us and how important it is to live by them.
I started out taking the fundamentals of firearm safety and handling and from there, tactical training courses, both intermediate and advanced. In April 2020, I received my CCW permit and after losing my husband in November 2020 to a violent crime, I knew at that moment how important it was for me to continue strengthening my firearms training so I decided to become an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer in June 2021 and a Certified USCCA Instructor in October 2021.
During the day, I work as a Manager at large, well-established healthcare company managing a team of nine (9). When I’m not at work, on the range or in a firearms course, I’m usually at home baking and decorating sugar cookies, watching Yellowstone or Sons of Anarchy (over and over) or doing what a woman does best… shopping.

I received my Bachelor of Architecture from Woodbury University, a small private business and design school in Burbank, CA. My thesis was “Wild Life, Off-Roading, and Architecture” which was designed and explored through San Gabriel Canyon in Azusa, CA. Aside from off-roading you can find me camping over three day weekends, obstacle course racing across the US, running half and full marathons (slow and steady), or volunteering for a local charity, and international food banks with my family. I have over fourteen years of experience in the world of Architecture and Construction. The past eight years of my career have been focused on leadership. I am currently working as a Project Manager for a local Architecture firm.
