Classroom & Range Safety

What is a Firearm

According to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), a weapon, and all components and parts therefore, which will or is designed to or may be readily converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive.

Types of Firearms Used at The Range

While training with Safe and Sound Firearms and Home Defense Training, we will welcome handguns and revolvers, of various caliber (excluding BB guns). We do not permit the use of rifles, shotguns or machine guns.  

Classroom Rules

  • NO firearms will be allowed inside the classroom, unless properly sealed in a range bag or box, unloaded with empty magazines. No Exceptions. Instructors of Safe and Sound Firearms and Home Defense Training (SSFHDT) or any Range Safety Officers (RSO) working with SSFHDT are excluded.
  • Negative, bad and/or rude attitudes will not be tolerated and student will be asked to leave the classroom; no refund(s) will be given.
  • Food and drinks will be allowed
  • Be courteous and respectful to those in the class and remember it's their time too

  • Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction (Down Range)
  • Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
  • Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use
  • Always know your target and what is beyond

  • Keep all guns, ammo, etc., in your sealed range bag or box until otherwise instructed by your instructor and/or RSO
  • Keep all guns unloaded and placed on the table with ejection port facing up until otherwise instructed by your instructor and/or RSO
  • Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times while on the range with "live" fire
